“I’m really happy with the weekend,” stated Mitchell, who posted the second-fastest lap in the second race behind the wheel of his No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Huracán prepared by Wayne Taylor Racing. We’ve scored podiums and good points in both races this weekend, following on from my pole position and second place last time out at Barber Motorsport Park. Again we’ve shown we have the pace to mix it at the front of the field. I’m happy with the stints I did in both races. Doing the second stint in the opening race was great, and I was delighted to make the overtake on the final lap to secure second place. It was the least we deserved. In the second race, I started from third on the grid and was up to second exiting Turn 1. The leader and I then opened a three-second lead to the car in third, but just as I was pushing to overtake, the Safety Car came on-track following an incident involving another driver. That didn’t help us because it immediately bunched us all up and we lost our advantage over the third-placed car.”
BROWNSBURG, IN (June 21, 2019) – With one event, two rounds of hard racing and one recent test under their belts, the Prestige Performance Wayne Taylor Racing team, drivers and 5-car stable of Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeos look to hit their stride on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn historic track of Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, June 28th- 29th.
Once again, all four classes of the North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series will be represented, with 2003 Champ Car Champion Paul Tracy taking over co-driving duties in the No. 69 Hubbell Racing LST from IMSA WeatherTech Prototype driver, Eric Curran, as well as with the addition of a fifth entry..
Scots endurance racer Sandy Mitchell’s American racing debut delivered an exhilarating range of emotions. The 19-year-old from Forfar bagged a podium finish and pole position. Then, in Race 2, he pulled off a miraculous high-speed save, and nursed his blazing Lamborghini back to the pits before the flames took too big a hold.
“That was certainly a memorable weekend,” Mitchell, backed by Black Bull Whisky, said after making his debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American Championship at Barber Motorsports Park, Alabama.
“It was a strong weekend overall. We had a good start and I was very proud of my qualifying speed that secured the pole yesterday for this race. We had a good start and were running reasonably stable upfront. Going into Turn 5, I made a mistake with the braking and ended up going off slightly into the gravel, hurting the temps in the car. It was definitely disappointing. I’m looking forward to Watkins Glen. I think we proved this weekend that we have the speed. We test there in about a month, and that will be my first time on the track. I am looking forward it – I’ve heard such wonderful things about that track.”- SANDY MITCHELL
Coming off a successful, but chilly, two-day test at Barber Motorsports Park, Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) and Prestige Performance Racing announced their driver line up for the 2019 Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) North American Championship season.
Four cars will compete in the 6-race North American Series which kicks off April 7th at the fan-favorite Birmingham raceway and finishes up at the 2019 World Final weekend in Cádiz, Spain, October 26-27th.
ANDREA AMICI, No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (PRO):
“In 2015, I raced with WTR and Prestige Performance. We had a really good result at the World Finals that year, so I feel really positive for this year. The team has the skills for us to be in first place at the end of the season. I won both the Europe and Asia Super Trofeo Championships, so my goal is to be the first to win all three continental series of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, winning also in North America. With WTR and Sandy, I think I can have good partners to achieve this target.”
